Jesus urged them to labour for the food that endures to eternal. Such food can only be gotten from the son of man who has God’s approval. The people asked him what they must do as proof that they were doing the work of God. Jesusreplied that they should believe in him who was sent by God. They asked him for a convincing sign to believe that he was truly sent by God –their father, they added that they ate manna in the wilderness which was sent down from heaven.
Jesus replied that manna was sent as a temporary relief from physical hunger, but God has also sent down a living bread which gives life to the world. anyone who comes to Jesus will no longer hunger

Then a woman of Samaria came to draw water from the well. Seeing the woman, Jesus said to her, ‘give me a drink’. The Samaritan woman, having seen Jesus as a Jew expressed surprise that a Jew could ask her, aSamaritan to give him water because the Jews did not associate with the Samaritans.
When she refused, Jesus made her understand that if she had known and understood the gift of God, and the person who was asking her for water, she would ask for the living water. The woman did not understand, so she wondered how Jesus would give her living water when he had nothing to drawwith, and the well was deep. She further asked Jesus whether he was greater than their father (Jacob), who gave them the well and even drank from it, together with his sons and his cattle. 4. The Fruit of the Justification Gal. 2:19-21; 5:22
MEANING AND NEED FOR JUSTIFICATION ROM. 3: 23; GAL. 3: 19-21
Justification means to be found innocent of a charge. it is to be declared guiltless or acquitted. Biblically, justification means getting into right relationship with God.
According to Paul, the Jewish religious law in the Old Testament served the purpose of presenting side by side God’s holiness and man’s sinful nature, which constantly reminded man of his inability to keep the law. Thus, on his own or by his own effort, man cannot keep God’s law thereby removing that barrier between him and God. The law therefore only brought light to the sinful nature of man.
The only remedy was therefore God’s decision to present Jesus Christ to die for man’s sins,so that whoever believes in him through his faith will be considered qualified to receive justification.
EVALUATION: state the meaning and need for justification
SUB-TOPIC 1: WORK AND LAW DO NOT JUSTIFY ANYBODY. ROM.4:1-5; GAL.2: 16-21
According to Paul in his letter to the Romans, man cannot be saved by his works. Justification cannot be achieved by our obedience to the law but through faith in Jesus Christ.
EVALUATION: can justification be achieved by work and law? Discuss
SUB-TPOIC 2: FAITH IN JESUS AS CONDITION FOR JUSTIFICATION ROM.1:16-17 ; 4:1-5
Paul acknowledged the Jewish desire to worship God but pointed out that they were still ignorant of the righteousness of God; but they went on making futile effort to establish their own righteousness through the law. They failed to submit to God’s righteousness which is Christ Jesus.
The blood of Jesus shed on the cross serves as expiation for the sins of man. Christ is the end of the law that everyone who has faith may be justified. Faith is acquired by confessing with one’s lips that Jesus is the lord, and by believing in one’s heart that God raised him from the dead. Once this is done, one is saved.
EVALUATION: state the condition for justification.
SUB-TOPIC 3: THE FRUIT OF JUSTIFICATION GAL. 2:19-21; 5:22
The fruits of justification include:
1. Peace with God: A justified person will be free from eternal condemnation.
2. Worker in God’s vineyard: one who is justified will work with the spirit of God which enables him to have God’s glory.
3. Reconciliation with God: through Christ, the believer has reconciliation with God.
4. Indwell of God’s Spirit: a justified person will have God’s Spirit dwelling in him.
5. Enduring Spirit: one who is justified will have enduring spirit which will produce good character in him.

NEW LIFE IN CHRIST
New life is a lifestyle that pleases God. It is a life that is built on the fear of God.
SUB-TOPIC 1: NEED FOR CHANGE .Rom. 6;1-4; 15:18-19.
According to Paul, anyone who has acquired new life in Christ will have some virtues that distinguish him from others still in the old life. He also lay emphasis on the sacrament of baptism, a rite during which the convert declares publicly his union with Christ. Paul asks:
“do you know that all of us who is baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into his death, so that as Christ was raised from the death by the glory of the father, we too might walk in newness of life”. ( Romans 6:3-4)
Baptism is a sacrament which marks the transition from the old life of sins to the life of holiness. It is done by immersion indicating that one is buried with Christ and by bringing one up from under water, he resurrects withChrist. This is what baptism by immersion symbolizes. The new convert, after being baptized, begins a phase of entirely new life, cutting himself totally from former lifestyles and assuming a new pattern of life modeled after Christ.
The new convert no longer allow sin to rule over him, neither should he yield to the desires of the flesh which are evil. The new life begins with the mind. It must also involve the creative power of God.
The new convert throws away his old life – a life of sin, and turns to a life in Christ known as a life of righteousness. By so doing, he will be able to subdue sin as one under grace, not law, instead of allowing sin to control him. (Romans 6:12-14)
